Lilies are popular indoor plants in the United States for their vibrant colors, elegant shapes, and charming fragrances. To successfully grow and care for lilies indoors, there are a few key factors to consider. The plants prefer well-draining soil and pots, so make sure your container has drainage holes at the bottom. A soil mix composed of two parts peat moss to one part perlite is often recommended for Calla Lilies.

This plant species appreciates a good drink, but it does not like to sit in waterlogged soil. Water your lilies when the top inch of soil becomes dry, ensuring that the water drains out the bottom of the pot. Overwatering can lead to root rot, which can cause your plant to wilt and die.

Lilies require plenty of sunlight, so placing them near a window that receives bright, but indirect sunlight is crucial. Calla Lilies in particular need about six hours of sunlight each day. However, be careful not to expose them to the intense afternoon sun, as this could scorch their leaves.

For lilies to thrive, they also need the right nutrients. Regularly feed your lilies during the growing season (usually from spring through fall) with a balanced houseplant fertilizer to provide necessary nutrients.

Like other lilies, Calla Lilies are not considered pet-safe. They contain oxalates, which can cause skin irritation and may be harmful if ingested. Therefore, they should be kept away from curious pets and young children.
